There are so many things that I am grateful for. Why list 27 of them? Just because.

So, here they are (in no particular order).

27 Things That I am Grateful For Right Now

  1. Being alive - Isn't it a miracle that I am me, living here and now, in this body, in 2025. I can breathe, and move, and all of my senses work. How wonderful it is to be alive, experiencing life, feeling feelings, and doing things. I am so grateful to be alive.

  2. Books - I love books. I love how I can meet people and travel to new places. I love how I can learn, escape, and be challenged. Books are wonderful.

  3. Click and Collect grocery shopping - Oh how lovely it is to do my shopping while in my pyjamas, sipping a coffee at my kitchen table.

  4. Spotify - I remember the days when I couldn't just listen to any song at any time.

  5. GPS - Gone are the days of Melways open on laps and pieces of paper with scribbled directions held up against steering wheels. I no longer have to remember a string of turns or street names. GPSs are brilliant little contraptions for fearful and directionally challenged humans like me (oops, my age is showing)

  6. Amazon Prime - "Mum, I need ___!" Never fear, Amazon is here. Order today, arrive tomorrow, free delivery. Too easy. (This post is not sponsored. But it could be. Amazon: Contact me. We'll talk.)

  7. Swiss Miss - Those pre-marshmallowed, delicious little hot chocolate sachets that can arrive the next day with the click of a button (thanks to #6)

  8. That hair regrows - No black goth hair or purple spikey doo for the rest of my life. Cut. Oops. Wait. Bored. Cut. Oops. Wait. Bored. Repeat forever.

  9. Winter is over - Hooray! I really dislike being cold.

  10. A comfortable home - It is warm. It doesn't leak. It has carpet, insulation, lighting, hot and clean running water, and electricity. Most of my kids even get their own rooms!

  11. Freedom and Safety - I go to sleep feeling safe and secure. I don't fear for my life. I don't worry that people will break in or start shooting each other in the streets. I don't lose sleep about people wanting to harm me for my beliefs or being denied basic human rights. I have a voice. I have choices. I am free. So many other people in the world can not say the same things.

  12. Oodies - So cozy.

  13. Love - I love and I am loved. How incredible. There is a reason why it is the most important thing.

  14. Friends and family who are happy to come over for a barbecue that consists of only sausages, cheap white bread, and tomato sauce - These are the best kind of people.

  15. Hand-me-downs - Give me a bag full of someone's cast-offs over a trip to Kmart any day.

  16. Opp shops - Where I pick up many books. I find books that I would never have otherwise found, and I thoroughly enjoy browsing the titles, covers, authors, and blurbs that reflect so many fads and eras throughout the years.

  17. Podcasts - Impart me with your wisdom, sweet podcaster. These things help me clean and complete all of my daily chores with joy.

  18. New growth on my plants - How exciting it is to see a new bud, leaf, flower, or branch.

  19. Nature - Fresh air, sunshine, clouds, rain, storms, stars, trees, breeze, bees, flowers, rocks, dirt, puddles, bugs, birds, bark, beach, river, hill, horizon, sunset, ant, dandelion... Nature is amazing, beautiful, awe-inspiring, calming, giving, changing, and constant. So many things. So much awesome.

  20. Coffee - It's not even my favourite drink. It doesn't really wake me up. But I still love it. It's what it stands for. Wake up, have a coffee. Catch up with a friend, have a coffee. Relax, have a coffee. Go out, have a coffee. It's so much better than water.

  21. Education - I am grateful that I have learned things that help me function well in society. I have a job, I pursue a writing hobby/career, I can find things out on my own and follow instructions, I can read and study. All because I received an education from wonderful people who spend their time teaching other people things. Knowledge is wonderful. Teachers are wonderful.

  22. Jesus - As a believer, I couldn't have this list and not mention Jesus. I have not always been a believer, so I understand how incredibly cringe and unrelatable this may be for some, but I also understand how much better a life with Jesus is in comparison to a life without. Go ahead and test the theory for yourself.

  23. People who believe in you - I don't mean people who tell you that you're awesome or tell you whatever it is you want to hear. I mean people who truly have your best interests at heart, are invested in your story, know that you can do better, push you to do so, and are willing to support you in word and in action. These people are wonderful and incredibly valuable humans.

  24. Internet - So much information right at our fingertips, communication, and connection with the click of a button, distances bridged, information sent and received, constantly shared and updated. A special shout-out to email and social media.

  25. Reversing cameras - Okay, I admit, my spatial awareness is pretty crap, and I probably couldn't park a car without a reversing camera. (This is why I don't do bus outings with my residents at work. I could drive them anywhere, but I couldn't park. They'd be stuck on the bus forever!)

  26. Free days - Those days when you don't need to be anywhere or do anything in particular. Too many in a row can get old quick, but the odd one here and there are pretty darn great.

  27. Libraries - How wonderful it is to have places to go to browse and borrow books for free. They are comfortable places to hang out, with things to do, groups to join, and people you can ask questions. If I need to get the twinnies out of the house and the weather isn't brilliant, then our library is top of our list of places to go. I also get such a kick out of finding a new book that I want to read, placing a hold on it through the library, receiving a message to say that it's ready for pickup, then going and picking it up. Each step has it's own little release of endorphins.

Nature + being alive so that I can enjoy it!

It has been proven time and again that focusing on the things we are grateful for every day is hugely beneficial for us. If you really think about it, I bet that you could come up with a list of one hundred things (I dare you!).

If you're up for it, list 3 things that you feel grateful for today, in the comments.

With love and gratitude,

Marley
