You've read the lists of things you can try when you’re creatively blocked, now here’s a list of 50 things NOT to do when feeling creatively blocked or uninspired.

Person in a floral dress vacuums wooden floor in a cozy living room with records on the wall. Mood is calm and domestic.
I simply must vacuum!

  1. Clean the fridge

  2. Vacuum the floor

  3. Cleaning of any kind

  4. Check your emails

  5. Go on social media

  6. Cry

  7. Throw away your work

  8. Berate yourself

  9. Worry that your creativity is gone forever

  10. Try to counteract the effects with excessive pride

  11. Eat an entire box of chocolates

  12. Complain

  13. Give up

  14. Stare at the wall for three hours

  15. Smash something (unless you do mosaics)

  16. Google the names of people you used to go to school/uni/work with

  17. Feel like a failure

  18. Vomit

  19. Try to find faults in your work

  20. Force yourself to create while feeling miserable

  21. Compare yourself with other people

  22. Compare your work with other people’s

  23. Read the news

  24. Ruminate

  25. Keep trying to fix the same problem in the same way, over and over

  26. Doomsay

  27. Spend a lot of money on something that promises a quick fix

  28. Stay awake for 48 hours

  29. Have a nervous breakdown

A person sits with head in hands, in front of a purple and pink wooden house. The scene conveys a contemplative or somber mood.
  30. Argue with anyone

  31. Stay around people who are unsupportive or don’t care about you or your work

  32. Try to get people to feel sorry for you

  33. Keep everything the same

  34. Peg your self-worth on your current feelings

  35. Set fire to your work

  36. Hide and isolate yourself

  37. Take drugs

  38. Get jealous of other people

  39. Ignore a problem

  40. Drink 15 cups of coffee

Hand holding a ceramic mug of coffee over a bright blue, textured blanket. The scene conveys warmth and comfort.
Cup #15 (I actually took this photo to capture the light and shade in the cup)
  41. Refuse to eat

  42. Refuse to get out of bed

  43. Avoid your work forever

  44. Blame someone or something for your current situation

  45. Create problems or disharmony in the hope that the pain and anguish will provide some creative inspiration

  46. Overthink

  47. Procrastinate

  48. Rearrange your pantry

  49. Organise your stationery by colour and size

  50. Put down other people or their work to make yourself feel better

Ta-daa! 50 things NOT to do when creatively blocked or uninspired. I'm certainly guilty of a few.

What other things would you add to the list?

Happy creating!

Much love,

Marley x
