Overwhelm is a part of everyday motherhood, right? Here are a list of moments that every mother could probably relate to at some point.

Woman in glasses reads a book in a car on a rainy day, with storefronts blurred outside the window.
I'll just sit in the car for a while... (note the grog shop in the background lol)

  1. You go to the toilet more than you need to so that you can spend some time alone.

  2. Personal space = Zero

  3. It's takeaway night (again). Who needs vegetables.

  4. You take deep breaths around sick people

  5. After you park in your driveway, you sit in the car for a while to stare at the dashboard before you go inside.

  6. You're laughing, but nothing is funny. Oh wait, here are the tears.

  7. You don’t really like wine or coffee, but you drink it anyway because it seems like a relaxing thing to do.

  8. The house is filthy because you have no capacity left to deal with it.

  9. Falling asleep during conversations but struggling to get to sleep when you're lying in bed

  10. You hate everything

  11. The world is over because you were going to make Penne Chicken but you don't have penne pasta... then you catch your pocket on a door handle. Oh boy.

  12. You'll shower again... one day.

  13. It's better to pretend that you can't hear so you can continue to enjoy your 35 seconds of peace.

  14. It's superhero dress-up day, and while all the other children are running around dressed as Spiderman, Iron Man, and Batman, your little guy is in a black shirt and trackies with a tea towel tied around his neck.

  15. You show up to pick up your child, and every single other parent is in the special assembly that is one minute away from finishing.

  16. You go to work to get a break.

  17. You can never be bothered going to any social event... Ever.

  18. You think that every other parent you come across is a better parent than you are and momentarily contemplate baking some cookies with your child to up your parenting score... but then you remember the mess.

  19. You write down your child's name and birthdate before you make a phone call where you will need to provide your child's name and birthdate.

  20. You long for a day off, so that you can spend it in bed.

  21. There must be some degree of learning that comes from watching people play Minecraft on YouTube, right?

  22. Dinner at the kitchen table? We have a kitchen table?

Book cover titled Other Than Mother shows a stylized family around a mother figure on a yellow background, with pink footer and Marley Betts.

Can you relate to any of these right now?

C'mon, be honest! lol

I wrote a book about an overwhelmed mother; her name is Becky, and I bet that she'd relate to all of these points. You can read about Becky and her family HERE or click on the book cover ->

Happy reading!

Much love,
